Guernewood Park

FOREST NEIGHBORHOOD WITH A SUMMER SWIMMING TRADITION

Guernewood Park developed as one of the Russian River’s classic cabin-and-cottage neighborhoods, taking shape in the early 1900s as weekend and summer living boomed in the hills above Guerneville. Set among redwoods just back from the main river corridor, it attracted families looking for a quieter retreat—close to town and the river, but tucked into the forest. In the resort era, summer life often centered on the river itself, with nearby swimming beaches and seasonal platforms and docks that became social hubs for visitors and locals escaping the heat. Like many West County “parks” and tracts, the area grew through small-lot subdivisions, modest vacation homes, and a do-it-yourself mountain character that blended seasonal visitors with long-time locals. Over time, more cabins became full-time residences as people sought a redwood lifestyle with easy access to Guerneville. Today Guernewood Park remains a distinctly residential pocket of the greater Guerneville area—known for winding lanes, tall trees, neighborhood pride, and that familiar Russian River mix of weekenders and year-round community.
