Commemorate, Celebrate, Educate
July 28, 2020 marks the sesquicentennial (150 years) of Guerneville. John Washington Bagley petitioned the Postmaster General in Washington D.C. on February of 1870 for the establishment of a post office at Stumptown and was appointed the first Postmaster of “Guerneville” on July 28, 1870.
There will be an exhibit related to the sesquicentennial at the Guerneville Bank Club. Other activities can include an opening celebration event, banners on the light poles, theme for the Stumptown Daze Parade, grand costume ball, ice cream social, history tour of Guerneville, commemorative stamp from the United States Post Office, Gold Resolution from the County, a State Resolution from Senator Mike McGuire’s office and much more.
The Russian River Historical Society will be commemorating this anniversary during the year and is soliciting for sponsors and volunteers to help build historic awareness, community pride and educate students and tourists of the unique and diverse history of this area.
