Russian River Car Show – August 22, 2020

Dear Russian River Car Show Participant,

In light of ongoing developments resulting from the Corona Virus (COVID-19) and the Sonoma County Health Officer’s announcement that mass gatherings will be prohibited in the region until after Labor Day 2020. The Russian River Historical Society Board of Directors regretfully will need to cancel the 22nd Russian River Car show and pancake breakfast that was scheduled for Saturday, August 22, 2020. We understand the disappointment and frustration of the public, but the health, wellness, and safety of our community, attendees, participants, and volunteers is our first priority.

Our community has been through so much in recent years; fires, floods, more fires and now COVID -19. Our spirits remain strong even through the worst.

We thank all of the participants and enthusiasts, who have gathered at the Russian River Car Show time and again to renew long-standing friendships, celebrate great vehicles and give so generously to the community. We will be planning the 2021 Russian River Car Show and pancake breakfast and look forward to seeing you on Saturday, August 28, 2021. Please visit our website at www.russianriverhistory.org for updates.

Wishing you good health and stay safe,

March 2020

Dear Russian River Car Show Participant,

Thank you for your continued support of the Russian River Car Show. Enclosed you will find an application for this years event on Saturday, August 22, 2020. This will be the 22nd year of the car show. Proceeds from last year event were donated to the Monte Rio School, Monte Rio Chamber for the Christmas baskets, Russian River Senior Center and the Wonderland Radio Hour, a historical radio hour of a person, place and a bit of history from each of the eight district communities that lie along the Russian River.

The Russian River Historical Society produces the car show. The Society preserves, protects and presents the history, documents and artifacts of the lower Russian River area from Hilton to Cazadero, maintains the Guerneville Pioneer Cemetery and this year is producing events to mark the 150th year founding of the town of Guerneville.

This being an election year, we will be anticipating changes in the near future, some we may like and some not so much. Along those lines, there are some changes this year to the car show categories. We have heard from several participants on a variety of possible adjustments to the event, and have caught our attention, so we thought we would take them for a test drive.

As we look around at the participants to car shows across the country, we have observed that the majority of the participants are of the baby boomer generation and we all seem to share a common hair color theses days! It’s important to the health of our hobby to engage and embrace younger generations and cultivate their interest. One such following is the “Rat Rod” builder/collector. These folks harken back to the early hot rod days and add an inventive and creative twist to their styling and construction, and have even taken it to an art form.

Another concept brought forward from our entrants, is that not everyone owns just one collectable automobile. Some have a classic and vintage European car parked next to their ‘60’s muscle car. These vehicles from across the pond also shaped the American car culture and I would venture to say that more than one of us owns a modern daily driver of Asian or European heritage. Now I don’t anticipate being invaded by an army of Aston Martins or VW Beetles, however, some of you might own a tastefully restored Jaguar or Triumph that could add diverse flare to the event. So in the spirit of “Ford vs. Ferrari”, we are going to take these two new categories for a spin this year and see how the rubber meets the road.

We hope to see you in August and don’t forget to come hungry for the pancake breakfast cooked by the San Francisco Firemen chefs and friends.
